Path of Heresy

Animated "Silent Film" Short

These are character and creature designs for my animation project called "The Path of Heresy."

I wanted to fit as much world-building as I could into this animated short, so I invented some creatures to incorporate into some scenes to subtly envelop the viewer in a foreign place. The lion-like creature with tusks is used for transportation, much like a horse. The bird with brightly-colored insect-like wings thrives in the early evening. The squirrel-like creature scurries by on a branch to dramatically reveal the scene behind it by depth-of-field. The children are main characters who develop into early adult-hood throughout the animation.

The background was digitally painted in Photoshop, and the characters and creatures were drawn with vector tools in ToonBoom Animate. For those reading this who may not be aware, ToonBoom's software is an industry standard in the field of traditional digital animation.

The software used for this project spans much wider than what was used in this particular image. For the full animation project, I'm using Adobe Premiere for scene arrangement, After Effects for special effects, and Image Line FL Studio for music.
